Slum Village: New Album Details, The History of the Group, Quality Control & More!
Dart Adams sat down with T3 and producer Young RJ to talk about the history of Slum VIllage and how it felt when “Fantastic, Vol. 2” finally came out and what it did for their careers at that time. Moving on to Darts first impressions of them as a group and the specific line that originally drew him to the album.
Moving further through the history of the group, Dart brings up their release under the alias J-88, when they brought in Elzhi, adding in Illa J and Young RJ and how the group has managed to continue to create great music regardless of the members involved.
When speaking on the similarities between Boston and Detroit T3 lets us know that he is coming out with a techno rap album after the release of the next Slum Village joint, which Young RJ goes into great details on. Coming out this Summer and titled “Yes” it will feature a slew of unheard J-Dilla beats and feature artists such as De La Soul, Bilal, BJ The Chicago Kid, Jon Connor, & a whole lot more.
Heading back into the history of the group, Dart brings up Baatin and the his unreleased album Titus. T3 lets us know that they have a lot of unreleased records from Baatin that they have not released as its not for them to decide what to do with them. They are letting his family decide if they want to put any of it out but they would gladly assist in that process if they decided to.
Discussing the album “Trinity” Young RJ and T3 let us know all the difficulties they faced when trying to put everything together. From J-Dilla remixing the beats after the fact, Baatin working from home instead of coming to the studio and the addition of Elzhi to the group.
To close out the interview, we discuss the specifics that go into Slum Village picking features and why they sound like they belong on the track and not just there to have a name on the record.
